Will Sewell, Classical Percussionist

A professional, well-put-together musician with a love for music-making and people-meeting.

Fresh out of his undergraduate degree, Will Sewell is eager to begin sharing his music with the world. He's performed with numerous professional orchestras, like the Central Texas Philharmonic and the Waco Symphony Orchestra, and in school, frequently performed with the top ensembles at Baylor University. His passion for chamber music performance is really what drives him as a musician. He performed with the Baylor Percussion Group for 4 years, during which, he advocated for and premiered new works by student composers and professionals, alike. He was also a member of the Baylor New Music Ensemble, which saw him collaborating with wind and string musicians to birth new pieces of music.

As a solo artist, Will considers the marimba his primary instrument. He recently gave a solo concert containing exclusively marimba music, which included 2 arrangements of other works, 2 standards in the repertoire, and 4 duets. Will was also invited to the Cortona Sessions for New Music, where he learned from the best in the industry and gave a solo performance as a part of a collaborative concert.

As a ringer in the Baylor Bronze handbell ensemble, he arranged and conducted "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre for handbell ensemble. On top of that, he rung just about every position in the ensemble at one time or another, but he cites the high-middle range as his favorite.

Will frequently arranges and composes for percussion and handbell choir. He recently finished a 15 minute percussion quartet that has yet to be premiered, and is currently working on an arrangement of "The Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinsky for percussion quartet. He's very enthralled by the piano music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, and has a goal to arrange every prelude for percussion duo. His Prelude Op. 32 no. 10 in B minor is currently available for sale through email inquiry.

Any instrument to be performed will have to be provided by the client. I can provide a triangle, djembe, and egg shaker, but that's it. I have plenty of mallets/sticks, but any large beaters (like for bass drum or gong) will have to be provided as well.
I generally prefer to be able to set up/warm up 1 hour before the performance, but this is flexible, if need be.
Please let me know if I need to bring my own music stand!
Drumset skills: rudimentary. Can lay down a solid beat, but nothing super fancy.
